What a revelation to know Jesus has a very special healing word. We find it in Mark 7:34, Jesus used this transformational word to open the heavens to bring down the healing grace of God to a deaf man.
The place where it happened was Decapolis( 10 cities), in Greece and was an area in the Roman Empire bordering Judea. In the Bible it didn't say why he was there, I suspect he was there on a healing tour because that is what he did and still does. When he came there a man was brought to him and the people begged Jesus to heal this man we don't know who he was, but he was obviously special to the people. So Jesus pulled the man aside and stuck his fingers in his ears and spat on his tongue and then Jesus said the word in Greek "Ephphatha". The Aramaic translation means Be Open, and the Greek form of the word means "Be opened in order to make a connection". While performing the miracle for the deaf man Jesus looked up into the heavens, and in an audible groan, as the Bible has it, He uttered the word "Ephphatha" opening the deaf Man's ears and also untangled his tongue the man began to speak clearly.
Metaphorically we can begin to embrace this story in Mark 7:34, in another way. Can we interpret it as the miracle of healing, through opening oneself to the love of God, and making a connection spiritually, the point of entry our heart for our healing? By opening one's own heart to God, miraculous transformations can occur teaching us to love without boundaries and strengthing our faith and making us whole. As believers, we are to except our relationship living with God and others loving unconditionally making our point of contact a true and special connection, every time, all the time.
It's as miraculous as saying Ephphatha, " Be Open" and connect without restraint. Our intimacy with the Holy Spirit and our divine healing comes about the moment we connect with God and Jesus being our intercessor.
God enables us to live better lives and to be more successful with others as our hearts begin to open. And just how does this opening transpire? I hope to examine this word more through the eyes of the Holy Spirit and the Bible, and not through my own understanding. How do we use this word Ephphatha in our own lives to bring forth an opening and to connect to our God-given gifts through action? and words of prayer and Con-action (Connected-Action) meaning connection with our higher power and then turning this connection into action as Jesus did with the deaf man.
I am astonished to have found the most spiritually divine passage and story in Mark chapter 7 verse 34, through one of the miracles delivered by Jesus to the deaf man. I thank Jesus for my life and living with God, and the Holy Spirit. Open your heart to the hearing of the word, John 1:14 "And the word became flesh" and in the power of the word "Ephphatha" and Jesus I do trust.
Amen.
